In the german newspaper "Sueddeutsche Zeitung" was today article about a successfully treatment with stemcells from skin for a 80 year old japanese woman with a (not specified) eye disease which could lead to blindness. According to the article, this was published in the NEJM (
In the same publication was mentioned that 3 patients in Florida got blind after a stem cell treatment which cells gained from fat tissue. While Cytori is not mentioned at all and it is more generally pointed to some obscure doctors/clinics.
The good part of the story was out of Japan using Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells. The tragic story of three blinded patients comes from US Stem Cell (formerly Bioheart) using adipose derived SVF cells. They should never have been experimenting with patient's eyes. Disgusting.
